A Global Forum

Sacred Fandom is a global online repository of articles, pictures, academic books and blogs related to practices and ideology of fans who worship film stars, celebrities, pop icons, and media characters. Through their devotional practices organized fan clubs augment a new system of religious order in the global landscape that originates from the screen.

From temples dedicated to Bollywood film stars in India who are worshipped as Hindu deities, to the Presleytarians of Elvis’ fans who envision him as “Jesus-like,” to the Trekkies of Star Trek, and the Temple of the Jedi Order and countless more: the sacral aspect of fandom is omnipresent. This website is a cross-cultural and cross-national space highlighting the devotional aspect of fans, or of devotee-fans. It encompasses their visual, political, social and religious constructs and the ways in which they impact our world.
